A ZAMBIA Police officer, Ludovic Bwalya, 32, died yesterday shortly after being shot by unknown people in Lusaka’s Presidential Housing Initiative (PHI) area.
Mr Bwalya, who was stationed at Ben Mwiinga police station in PHI, was found gasping for his life in the early hours of yesterday by residents of the area and later died at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.
Lusaka Province deputy police commissioner Geoffrey Kunda confirmed this in an interview yesterday.
“Police in PHI heard a gunshot and some noise in the area and rushed to the scene where they found nothing. This was between 04:30 and 07:30 hours. Later in the day, members of the public reported that a body of a police officer was lying on the ground in the area,” he said.
Mr Kunda said police rushed to the scene and found Mr Bwalya still alive but grievously wounded.
“The officers rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The body of the deceased is lying in Levy Mwanawasa Hospital mortuary, while the funeral is at PHI,” he said.
