Cooperatives key in agro supply chain

KELLY NJOMBO, Lusaka
THE Common Market for Conservation (COMACO) says well-established local farmer cooperatives remain key in supporting the agricultural supply chain through formal contracts for managing farmer payments.

COMACO said since most smallholder farmers live in remote areas with poor road networks, there is need for an efficient, low cost method of transporting raw materials from farmers to buyers and manufacturing centres.
According to the company’s newsletter availed to the Daily Mail recently, farmers are the solution to keeping the country’s food secure, preserving soils, trees and wildlife, and that this calls for a fair price that will enable them to earn profits.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
