MINISTER of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela has told Parliament that Government wants to complete paying all contractors working on projects
Mr Chitotela says Government wanted to embark on new projects by 2020 and has therefore embarked on an ambitious drive to finish paying what it owed contractors.
“I wish to assure all the contractors countrywide that we will not back down on our commitment. We stand by our word. We will pay all the contractors,” Mr Chitotela said.
He was responding to a question by Chadiza Member of Parliament Salatiel Tembo (PF), who wanted to know when the tarring of Chipata-Chadiza-Chanida and Chadiza-Katete roads would resume and the cost of the project.
Mr Chitotela said most local contractors had already been paid and that majority of those who had remained were foreign contractors.
He said works on the Chipata-Chadiza-Chanida and Chadiza-Katete roads had resumed and would be completed before the end of this year.
The cost of the project is K856 million and 15 interim payment certificates have been submitted as of January 31, 2017 amounting to K327 million, and that K181 million has been paid.
