Contractor summoned over delayed project

GOVERNMENT has summoned Shaftex Zambia Limited of Lusaka following the delay in the completion of building the K14.6 million Fisenge Day Secondary

School whose construction started in 2011.
Luanshya district commissioner Joel Chibuye said the contractor has been informed to expedite the works and has until October this year to complete constructing the school.
Mr Chibuye said in an interview that the project is 60 percent done but works are still behind schedule.
“We have asked the contractor – Shaftex of Lusaka – to expedite the works as the project has gone out of duration since it started in 2011 and was expected to complete in 2013.
“They are almost six years on site and we have told them that they should speed up the works and we have given them up to October, failure to which Government will look into the contract,” he said.
Mr Chibuye, however, said Government has allowed the school to partially open to enable pupils to learn.
He said pupils are using part of the block which has been completed and one ablution block.
The project comprises 10 staff houses, three classroom blocks, two ablution blocks, a school hall, staff administration block and a water pump.
He said Government is committed to ensuring that the school is completed as quickly as possible.
