Consumer body to address unfair trading practices

WARRANTY, guarantee and unfair contract terms guidelines are expected to be developed in the country to ensure consumer protection against unfair trading practices and to resolve unfair trading disputes encountered by both the business community and consumers.
Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has since engaged various stakeholders to assist in the formulation of the guidelines to ensure inclusiveness in addressing unfair trading practices before being enacted by parliament.
CCPC acting executive director Vestus Chungu said there is need to ensure the draft guidelines on warranty, guarantee and unfair contract terms are realistic and in tandem with the business environment if they are to address challenges in trade regulation.
