MIKE MUGALA, Lusaka
The Matero local court heard how a 27-year-old woman of Lusaka’s Kabanana township has allegedly been denying her husband conjugal rights for six months on suspicion that he sleeps with his sister.
Testifying before magistrate Miyanda Banda and Pauline Newa, Harrison Mumba, 35, also of the same township said that since November 2016, his wife Elina Hangubo has been sleeping with her clothes on.
He was giving evidence in a case in which he has sued Hangubo for divorce. Facts before the court were that the two got married in 2011 and have two children together. And bride price was paid.
Mumba told the court that Hangubo is fond of accusing him of having an affair with his sister whenever he goes to visit her.
“My wife is very jealous and does not allow me to visit my sister. Last month, she started accusing me of sleeping with my 15-year-old granddaughter,” he said.
In his submissions, Mumba told the court that it was better for him and Hangubo to go separate ways.
Hangubo on the other hand told the court that she has been denying her husband conjugal rights because of his promiscuity. She said she is scared that Mumba might infect her with the HIV virus.
“I have been denying him sex because I fear for my life, my husband always sleeps out and only comes home to change clothes.
“He gets naked picture of his girlfriends and display them on his laptop.
“Whenever I interrogate him, he tells me to also find myself a boyfriend,” she said.
In her submission, Hangubo pleaded with the court not to dissolve her marriage on grounds that she still loves her husband.
In passing judgement, the court granted a divorce and ordered Mumba to compensate Hangubo with K 6,000 and K 300 monthly child maintenance.
