Letter to the Editor

Congrats Ms Kapwepwe

Dear editor,
I WISH to congratulate Ms Chileshe Kapwepwe on her appointment as the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretary General taking over from her predecessor, Dr Sindiso Ngwenya. She is an accountant by profession with the association of Chartered and Certified Accountant (ACCA).
As a seasoned accountant, she has worked both in Zambia and outside the country holding various senior positions. At one time, she worked for International Monetary Fund (IMF). She is a fellow member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and also a fellow member of Association of Chartered and Certified Accountant (ACCA) for United Kingdom.
Still on her professional credentials, she has a Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA). She is the first woman to be appointed as the Secretary General of COMESA. This is a great achievement not only for her as an individual but country as a whole.
Going by her vast experience in the corporate world, I am confident that she is bringing a wealth of experience and she will discharge her duties diligently to the best of her abilities. Furthermore, her appointment to this high-profile position has clearly shown the world that Zambia has well qualified and credible people to take any position.
Over and above everything else, it is good that the headquarters for COMESA is in Zambia and the Secretary General is also from our country. She is an inspiration to many people. She is testimony that with hard work and determination, everyone can achieve a lot in professional careers and other spheres of life.
Once again, I congratulate my fellow accountant for the achievement. She has made Zambians and the accountants in particular proud.
