Compound D fertiliser price goes up in Petauke

LOW supply for agro inputs has hit Petauke resulting in the high cost of compound D fertiliser in the area.
Recently, the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) undertook a check in most of the agro shops which showed that top dressing fertiliser (Urea) was in short supply.
“With this shortage, some agro dealers have increased the price of fertiliser with Compound D selling between K268 and K80 per bag of 50 kilogramme (Kg) bag while Urea is selling at K245 per 50Kg bag,” said in its weekly brief.
In Kabompo, farmers are in desperate need of the top-dressing fertiliser under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
The district has, so far, received only received 3,407 by 50Kg bags out of the expected 20,700 bags of top dressing fertiliser.
The farmers have, however, received all the required basal dressing supplied by the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ).
According to farmers in Katendwa area in the district, the situation is desperate as most of the maize in the fields has reached the top-dressing stage.
On pests, farmers implored relevant authorities to hasten the process of delivering the inputs to save the crop as Kabompo was among the least army worm and stalk borer-infested districts in the country.
In Solwezi, ZNFU and the Ministry of Agriculture have successfully distributed 13, 249 electronic voucher cards out of which 12,200 have been collected by farmers.
This follows the introduction of the e-voucher system under FISP in the district while the remaining balance of 1,049 e-voucher cards are yet to be collected.
The districts total number of beneficiaries is 13,550 translating into 301 cards which are yet to be received for subsequent distribution.
