COMESA urges JIT to stay focused

THE recovery of property suspected to be proceeds of crimes by the Joint Investigations Team (JIT) and the ongoing inquiries and prosecution of individuals suspected to have been involved in money laundering and other financial crimes are backed by evidence gathered on the ground. Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) says JIT should not be distracted by people attempting to frustrate its efforts by calling the fight against illicit financial activities names but that it should focus on doing its work diligently. COMESA head of governance, peace and security Elizabeth Mutunga said JIT is sure of what it is doing, hence it should not be distracted by some sectors. Some stakeholders have accused the new dawn administration of centering the fight against corruption and other financial crimes on leaders of the past administration.
