Coca-Cola schools tourney enters semi-final stretch

DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO, Lusaka
THE Coca-Cola Schools National Championship today enters the semi-final stretch with intriguing encounters at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
With defending champions Highridge booted out of the race, Chongwe, the Lusaka Province envoys, are favourites to go all the way and be crowned kings.
Chongwe face Solwezi in the first semi-final while Kaoma engage Chizongwe.
Chongwe topped Group A while Chizongwe of Eastern Province were second while Kaoma were winners in Group B with North-Western representatives Solwezi trailing in second position.
Chongwe won three games and managed a draw against Mungwi placing them as top contenders for the title.
Chongwe ran riot in their last group match trouncing hapless Chizongwe 6-1 with Joshua Banda, who is in contention for the golden boot award, scoring four goals.
They will rely on Banda’s scoring prowess to secure a final slot.
But Solwezi could cause an upset if they are underrated.
Kaoma had to wait for the last match to determine their fate in the competition but the Western Province envoys remained resilient and managed a comfortable 4-1 victory over group weeping boys Mpika in their last game.
