Cleo drops ‘Don’t Mind’ video


CLEO Ice Queen has released a video of her song Don’t Mind on her YouTube Vero channel and some critics are already waxing lyrical, describing it as one of the best hip-hop videos to have come out of the country recently.
The 27-year-old rapper, model, radio and television presenter and entrepreneur recently released the album Gemicle , probably the first-ever female hip hop album in the country. The album has songs like Oxygen featuring Kaladoshas, ‘Turn Up’ on which Urban Hype features and Ninaka, where she has collaborated with Wezi.
Cleo, Zambia’s representative in reality television show Big Brother Africa season eight recently had an opportunity to represent the country in the successful Coke Studios series in which she was paired with South African songbird Bucie, who is set to visit Zambia next month as one of the headline acts at the RocktoberFest.
The Coke Studio brings together artistes from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic sound through music Mash Up. Other than Bucie, the others paired with Cleo were Zimbabwe’s producer Mr Kamera.
The rapper, whose real name is Clementina Mulenga, has already started working on her second album on which she hopes to collaborate with some South African artistes.
Cleo, who anchors a drive time show on Lusaka’s Rock Fm and is also presenter of the first-ever local football magazine show Bola Yapa Zed on SuperSport, has had a stellar year in music career.
She was nominated for the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) under the Best Female Artiste Southern Africa alongside Zonke (South Africa), Lira (South Africa), Lizha James (Mozambique), Pah Chihera (Zimbabwe), Busiwe (South Africa), Chikune (Namibia) and Nnunu Bomolemo Ramogotsi (Botswana).
The other Zambian to be nominated is Roberto in the Best Male Artiste Southern Africa alongside Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), AKA (South Africa), Black Coffee (South Africa), The Dogg (Namibia), Vee Mampeezy (Botswana), Emtee (South Africa) and Dj Bongz (South Africa).
