Class monitor ‘kills’ fellow pupil

POLICE in Sinazongwe have arrested a 14-year-old class monitor of Malima Primary School for allegedly murdering her 13-year-old classmate during a fight over a noise-makers’ list.
Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda said yesterday that the incident happened on Monday around 12:30 hours at Malima Primary School.
Ms Chikwanda identified the dead child as Hazel Hamanyama while the name of the monitor has been withheld.
She said a fight ensued between the two girls after Hazel allegedly inquired from the monitor why her name was on the noise-makers’ list which was submitted to the class teacher.
Ms Chikwanda said the monitor allegedly pushed Hazel, who fell and died instantly.
She said no physical injuries were seen on the body, which is in Maamba Mission Hospital mortuary
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man of Livingstone died on the spot on Tuesday when a van belonging to Zambia Postal Services, which he was driving, careered off Choma-Kalomo road and overturned.
Ms Chikwanda identified the deceased as Evans Mangongino and that the accident happened around 04:00 hours about 40kms north of Kalomo.
“The accident happened after Mr Mangongino failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle overturned,” Ms Chikwanda said.
The body is in Kalomo District Hospital mortuary.
And a 37-year-old teacher of Milishi village in Chief Kasoma Lwela’s area in Luapula has been murdered by unknown people.
The naked body of Belinda Chongo was discovered by her colleague Genesis Mwansa around 05:00 hours on Monday.
Mr Mwansa, 26, of Chabala village in the same area reported the matter to Chembe Police Station.

A 21-year-old woman of Chief Puta’s area in Chienge has allegedly been indecently assaulted by a fellow woman, Raphael Kalela, 29.
And a 20-year-old grade nine pupil at Chipanda Primary School in Manyinga has allegedly been raped by a 38-year-old man.
The suspect is Brighton Mutoyo of Ndumba village in Senior Chief Sikufele’s area.
North-Western Province deputy commissioner of police Michael Nkaka said yesterday that the girl was raped on Friday at around 11:00 hours at Chipanda plains.
“The victim was going home from school with her friend whose names and age are unknown when she was raped while another colleague managed to escape,” Mr Nkaka said.
The suspect was arrested and detained.
