ALEX NJOVU, Lusaka
UNDOUBTEDLY, it has got an illustrious history.
Granted it was in the pre-independence era, but still, City of Lusaka Football Club should be proud of having been able to attract a big name such as that of Jackie Sewell, the English footballer who once commanded the world-record transfer fee in the 1950s.
The argument could be that Sewell, who died in 2015 at the age of 89 and was the most expensive footballer in Britain after moving from Notts County to Sheffield Wednesday for a record £34,500 midway through the 1950-51 season, was past his best when he joined City of Lusaka in 1961. He was in his 30s and therefore in the evening of his career.
That is indeed true.
But you also have to look at it in the same way as David Beckham moving to LA Galaxy in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States; or Steven Gerrard doing the same; or Zlatan Ibrahimovic doing the same.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
