‘Church cardinal to deliver girl-child education’

THERE are many cases of child marriages that take place in Nakonde district without the knowledge of relevant authorities. This vice has forced many girls to drop out of school.

GOVERNMENT says it will continue partnering with the Church to deliver quality education to the girl-child, Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga has said.
Mr Mushanga said Government attaches importance to girl-child education and this is why it wants to see the girl-child educated.
Mr Mushanga was speaking at Angelina Tembo Girls Secondary School after the fundraising walk to help feed 200 orphans and venerable children (OVCs).
“The Church has played an important role serving and transforming people’s lives through education and they should be commended for that,” Mr Mushanga said.
He said the Church has many programmes not only in schools but higher learning institutions which have helped improve the lives of young people.
Mr Mushanga, who is Bwacha member of Parliament, donated K2,000 to supplement the different programmes the school is implementing.
And Angelina Tembo Girls Secondary School head teacher Matildah Solok said the institution, which has clocked 52 years, will continue improving to ensure that girls acquire the best education.
Sr Solok said the fundraising walk would help feed the children and contribute to the completion of infrastructure.
