CHOMBA Nanyangwe last week Saturday was crowned as the new Miss Little Intellect Zambia, taking over the crown from Suwilanji Nalungwe, at a pageant held at Villa Executive Lodge in Lusaka’s Villa Elizabetha.
The pageant is organised by Child Youth Intellects for Change, an organisation that is youth-led and sensitises the public on sustainable development goals number four and 13, which are quality education and climate action, respectively.
This was the second pageant that the organisation was hosting although it has been involved in a number of activities since staging the inaugural one last year.
This year’s pageant attracted participants from Lusaka and the Copperbelt who competed in two categories: teens for the girls aged two to six years and the other one for those between nine and 12.
The contestants had to explain to the audience what they knew about the sustainable development goals as well as what their career dreams and their favourite subjects at school.
They also faced questions on current affairs when they took to the catwalk in the cocktail category.
Chipo Himwinga was chosen as the First Princess while Chilekwa Joy Nachilongo was the Second Princess with Chimwemwe Sampa getting picked up as Miss Personality.
The overall winner, Chomba, walked away with a mini HP laptop in order to promote information communication technology and a TopStar decoder while Chipo got a Davis & Shirtliff water pot, iSchool Mwabu tablet and K100 Spur Breakfast Voucher. Chilekwa bagged a tablet, TopStar decoder and K50 Bookworld voucher while Chimwemwe got a tablet, TopStar decoder and K100 Spur steak ranch voucher.
The pageant was put together by directors of the Miss Little Intellect Zambia Kabuba Muyunda and Inonge Wakunguma and the members of Child Youth Intellects for Change.
Brighton Mukupa Kaoma, who is a co-founder of a non-governmental organisation called Agents of Change Foundation, was the guest of honour while the judges were former Miss Zambia Louisa Chingangu, television host Benas Banda, Qfm host Rhoda Mulenga and Dolls director Cheswa Walika Msimbi.
Other entertainment was provided by pupils from Jacaranda Primary School and Otassys Dance Crew with Miss Zambia 2016 Mwangala Ikachana crowning the winners.
