Chitumbo hails road works

THE Mongu-Kalabo road has potential to generate revenue for the country through trade.

From EVELYN MULENGA in Chingola
CHILILABOMBWE district commissioner Stuart Chitumbo says road construction works currently underway in the area are progressing well.
Mr Chitumbo said in an interview on Wednesday that Government is determined to fulfill its campaign promises.
“I am very impressed with the road works in Chililabombwe because they are progressing well and this is a sign of development,” Mr Chitumbo said.
He said a stretch of 11.7 kilometers will be worked on by Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing at a cost of K70, 339,764.
Mr Chitumbo said Government is currently working on 10 roads while 12 others are yet to be rehabilitated.
“Work has commenced on the 12 roads and they are expected to be on schedule,” Mr Chitumbo said.
He said Government will closely monitor the contractor to ensure the project is completed on time.
“I will not remind the contractor that the rains are almost starting, all we need to see is progress.
“I am not going to relax, but I will ensure that the project is completed on time,” Mr Chitumbo said.
