THE embattled National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Chishimba Kambwili was recently quoted as having said that the Economics Association of Zambia (ECZ) president Lubinda Haabazoka had “U-turned 360 degrees”.
I wish to correct Mr Kambwili on this phrase which does not make any sense at all.
When one U-turns, it means that the person has gone into the opposite direction as the letter ‘U’ shows. On the compass, this denotes 180 degrees.
So 360 degrees cannot be a U-turn.
This is a full circle. It would mean one continuing in the same direction.
So next time, if Mr Kambwili or other people want to stress a point, it is best to just say ‘U-turned’ or ‘has turned 180 degrees’.
