Chishimba Kambwili booked

FORMER Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has been given a seven-day ultimatum by the Patriotic Front (PF) to exculpate himself for alleged failure to adhere to party rules and regulations.
PF secretary-general Davies Mwila said in an interview yesterday that a letter was served on Dr Kambwili last Friday.
Mr Mwila, however, refused to disclose the contents of the letter, saying it was an internal matter.
“I can confirm that as a party we have written to Dr Kambwili [requesting him] to exculpate himself over his failure to follow party rules and regulations in the past few weeks. However, I will not disclose further the contents of the letter,” he said.
Dr Kambwili, who is in charge of sports in the PF central committee, has been critical of some members of the party, particularly Jean Kapata, who is chairperson for elections.
Ms Kapata recently dropped her deputy, Kelvin Fube, for contravening party rules and regulations, a decision that sparked a tit-for-tat.
President Lungu recently dropped Dr Kambwili from his ministerial position.
And Dr Kambwili has confirmed receiving the letter.
“Yes, I have received the letter,” Dr Kambwili replied before laughing it off when asked if he had been asked to exculpate himself by the party.
“I will answer to the allegations appropriately. I am a very loyal member of the PF. I hope and trust that there are no ill-intentions in all this. I will answer to the letter and I will leave it to the Zambians to judge for themselves,” Dr Kambwili said.
He has maintained that he is member of the ruling party “to the bone and no amount of negative influence can force me out”.
