Chipata to have 3rd level hospital

CHIPATA General Hospital has opened a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the first time since the health facility was built in 1976 poising it to become a third-level hospital.
Chipata general medical superintendent Daniel Makawa said at a media briefing yesterday in Chipata that the hospital will soon be declared a third-level (Central) hospital before the end of the year.
“Since the inception of the hospital in 1976, it was in 2014 when we opened for the first time our ICU. This is part of the equipment upgraded in phase one as we prepare to be a third-level hospital,” he said.
He said the hospital is also working towards improving other services to achieve specialised healthcare delivery.
