KELVIN MBEWE, Lusaka
CHINESE Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming says there is need for more exchange visits between Zambia and China to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
And Mr Yang says a delegation of Chinese ministers is expected in the country to reciprocate the earlier visit to China by Zambian provincial ministers.
He said this when he paid a courtesy call on Lusaka province minister Japhen Mwakalombe on Tuesday.
“We are organising a trip for ministers from China to visit Zambia, this is upon realisation that these trips are helping in cementing the two countries relationships. It is such visits that are used to identify investment opportunities, and also knowledge exchange among other important things, “he said.
And Mr Yang said Zambia has a lot of resources for tourism which Chinese tourists would like to explore.
“We have a lot of Chinese citizens that love tourism, and we record about 120 million Chinese visiting different places every year,” he said.
And Mr Mwakalombe commended the Chinese government for being an all-weather friend, and for the support the country has rendered to Zambia.
“You have continued to support us in economic issues, we hold China in very high esteem. We want to make the relationship even stronger,” he said.
Mr Mwakalombe thanked the Chinese government for the trip to China by provincial ministers which he said has yielded positive results.
“The trip was very important as it was an eye opener. From the trip, we learnt to structure the provinces in such a way that we are able to tell which economic activities contribute to the gross domestic product. We have also come up with provincial profiles to market each province according to what it has to offer,” he said.
