Chinese dies in mine accident

A CHINESE expatriate has died in a mine accident at Chambishi Non-Ferrous Africa Mining Corporation (NFCA) while working underground at the South East Ore Body project.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that the accident happened on Wednesday around 19:00 hours.
Ms Katanga identified the deceased as Zhao Thao of Chambishi.
She said Mr Zhao of China Flats in Chambishi was working at 10.80-metre level tunnel when a steel pipe fell on him.
“Mr Zhao was working underground when a steel pipe fell on him. He sustained injuries and was rushed to Sinozam Hospital, where he later died,” she said.
She said a man only identified as Mr Sichilima reported the matter to the police.
