AS its economy continues to grow, becoming the second largest in the world after the United States, China has vowed not to relent in its quest to develop through economic reforms and its opening-up strategy.
China’s opening-up philosophy was coined by a Chinese economist and ardent proponent of socialist economic development, Deng Ziaoping.
Ziaoping and the Chinese founding father Mao Zedong, also known as Chairman Mao, espoused a communist or socialist governance system with ‘Chinese characteristics’.
This philosophy has lived for over 70 years now but serious opening up began in 1978. It is deeply rooted in the Chinese governance system. It has become a song sung by every Chinese, young or old.
