CHILILABOMBWE Municipal Council has approved a K42.7 million budget for next year.
This is against this year’s budget of K34, 724,700, representing an increment of 20 percent.
Council chairperson on the committee of finance and human resource, Godfrey Nkhoma said next year’s budget is based on the medium term expenditure framework and activity based budget.
Mr Nkhoma, who is also Njebe ward councillor said next year’s budget will be raised mostly from property tax as a new valuation role will be implemented.
Increments in fees, charges, levies and the local development fund are estimated at K1.4 million.
Mr Nkhoma added that expenditure and salary increments have been included in the budget under personal emoluments.
“In terms of expenditure, the council during his year’s budget is observing government’s directive of which 40 percent is being spent on service delivery and 60 percent on personal emolument and by December 31, this year, we are likely to fall within the stipulated percentages,” he said.
Under service provision, the notable highlights are an increase in the ward development fund from K30,000 to 50,000 per ward.
Chililabombwe mayor Paul Kabuswe commended the councillors and management for approving the budget.
Mr Kabuswe stressed the need to improve cleanliness in the town and declared Friday as a cleaning day for all residents.
