Chileshe wants boxers to camp for 3 months

MWILA NTAMBI, Kitwe
ZAMBIA Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Thomas Chileshe says failure to camp boxers will affect their chances of qualifying for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Chileshe said in Kitwe yesterday that boxers are supposed to be in camp for three months before competing in an international tournament.
“Qualifiers for the Olympics are supposed to be in March in Cameroon. The boxers are supposed to be in camp for three months before participating in competitive fights because a lot is involved. But they are not in camp because there are no funds,” he said.
Chileshe said inadequate preparations would cost boxer’s chances of qualifying for the Olympics because coaches will not have enough time to assess them.
“Even the confidence is not there. This is a very worrisome development,” he said.
Chileshe appealed to the corporate world to come to the aid of the federation raise funds for camping.
He attributed Zambia’s failure to win medals at international competitions to inadequate preparations.
