Letter to the Editor

Children have obligation to obey parents

Dear editor,
I WISH to encourage my friends through our widely read newspaper to dialogue with their parents or guardians.
God has given us a commandment to honour and respect our parents.
How do we observe it? As we grow up we discover various facts of life and think we know it all rather than our parents who we think are old-fashioned and cannot tell us anything.
We teenagers are facing many challenges such as HIV and AIDS, early pregnancies, rape, drug and alcohol abuse as well as unemployment after school.
Let us discuss these with our parents.
They can give us good advice because they experienced similar problems.
They are able to understand us, guide us and teach us the facts of life.
God gave them the responsibility to train us (Deuteronomy 6: 6-9) and we are told to obey (Ephesians 5:1-2). We should be better informed!
