Chilambwe, Chimfwembe cruise to semis

MEN’s champion Manda Chilambwe and women’s queen Sharon Chimfwembe yesterday continued with their dominance when they cruised to the semi-finals of the Zambia State Insurance Corporation Midlands Open Squash Championship at Lusaka Club.
Chilambwe was too good for Mitchel Mwanza, whom he beat 11-8, 11-2, 11-6 while Chimfwembe battered Sheila Musukuma 3-0.
In other men’s matches, Frank Wabo overcame Nomicious Mwewa 11- 3, 11-6, 11-7 while Kundanji Kalengo edged Alfred Muma 11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 7-10, 11-7  in a tightly contested match.
Seed four Alfred Mulubwa also advanced to the last four thumping Ngosa Musonda 11-7, 11-8, 11-6.
Chilambwe was scheduled to face Mulubwa last night while Wabo was paired against Kalengo.
In the women category, Ethel Mambwe edged favourite Zulema Chisenga 3-1 while Namwene Muchaile beat Natasha Chimese with a similar margin to sail to the semi-finals.
Monica Chimese beat Eunice Geza 3-0 to set a date against Muchaile while Chimfwembe took on Mambwe last night.
Zambia Squash Association president Norena Chiteba described this year’s competition as tough.
“Competition this year has been tough. We have 32 men and 14 women and all the players have done very well so far,” Chiteba said.
