Chilambe tips Government

HONE SIAME reports:
RETIRED national welterweight champion Mike Chilambe has implored Government to come up with a policy that will compel corporate entities to support boxing in the country.
Chilambe said in Kitwe yesterday that corporate entities are not doing enough to support amateur and professional boxing.
He said amateur boxing needs financial and material support for Zambia to win medals at international competitions such as the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
Chilambe said the Thomas Chileshe-led Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) executive committee could only implement its programmes when given financial and material support.
“The future of boxing is looking bleak because of lack of support from corporate organisations and the business community. I am appealing to Government to come up with a deliberate policy that will compel companies to support boxing.
He said Zambian boxers could only win medals at high-profile international competitions when engaged in adequate preparations.
Chilambe said adequate preparations require financial support from the corporate world.
He said ZBF cannot manage to steer boxing to higher heights without the support of the business community.
