‘Chiefs key to national unity’

BUTTYSON KANDIMBA, Kalumbila
GOVERNMENT says traditional ceremonies are critical to the consolidation of peace and unity ahead of Zambia’s August 11 general elections.
North-Western Province permanent secretary Ephraim Mateyo said this is so because of the important role that traditional leaders play in the effective governance of the country.
Mr Mateyo said President Lungu will continue to involve chiefs in governance because they better understand the needs of the people.
He said this on Saturday when he officiated at this year’s Kufukwila traditional ceremony of the Kaonde people of Kalumbila district.
“We shall continue supporting the values of tradition and culture because they are key to preserving peace,” Mr Mateyo said. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
