Chief commends Kansanshi mining

CHIEF Mumena of the Kaonde people of Solwezi has commended Kansanshi Mining Plc for embarking on a programme to train farmers in conservation farming.
Chief Mumena said the initiative by the mining company will boost both household and national food security.
The traditional leader urged farmers to adopt the new technology.
“As Mumena royal establishment, we are grateful for  this partnership which has seen most of our farmers being trained in conservation farming,” he said.
Chief Mumena said there is need to adopt new methods of farming such as conservation farming to nature the soil.
He said farmers should adopt the new method of farming as it does not require the use of artificial fertiliser.
“With the delays we are currently witnessing in the payment to farmers by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), it is better we switch to  conservation farming as this method does not require the use of fertiliser despite the high yields associated with this type of farming,” he said.
The traditional leader observed that the traditional way of farming should be discouraged as it is contributing to indiscriminate cutting down of trees.
