Chief Chabula wants fish farming investment

CHIEF Chabula of Northern Province says private sector investment in initiatives that will promote the development of fish farming in the kingdom is critical to exploiting the business.
The traditional leader said fish farmers in the area need financial empowerment to venture into the lucrative business, which has potential to boost income and reduce poverty levels.
Speaking when officials from Musika and WorldFish Centre paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Lupososhi on Wednesday, Chief Chabula said despite his chiefdom having potential to produce fish for consumption and for sale, the production levels still remain low due to various challenges.
The traditional leader, who is also a fish farmer, cited lack of access to quality feed and cold storage facilities, transportation challenges and quality fingerlings as some of the constraints.
