NATIONAL team manager Chris Chibuye says the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Senior
Challenge Cup is a perfect platform for Zambia to prepare for next Saturday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) first round clash against Swaziland. Chibuye said in an interview yesterday that the technical bench is using the COSAFA to strategise for the encounter against the Sihlangu. He said a number of players who are in the COSAFA squad will form the core of the CHAN team. “Most of the players we have here will be part of the team. But I know for sure the coach will only make the necessary changes,” Chibuye said.
He said all the players are working hard to cement places in the national team. “We want to thank the organisers of the tournament because it has provided us with a chance to assess the players and see who can play in future engagements,” Chibuye said. He said the match against Swaziland will be tough hence the need to prepare adequately. Chibuye said players from Zesco United and Zanaco will reinforce the national team for the match against Swaziland.
Zambia reached the quarter-finals at the 2016 Rwanda CHAN edition and were bronze winners at the inaugural tournament in Ivory Coast in 2009.
