Chembe health centre robbed of drugs

CHEMBE Rural Health Centre in Luapula Province has been robbed of medicines and other items worth over K40,000.
The incident happened between August 1 around 09:00 hours and August 27 08:00 hours.
Luapula Province commissioner of police Malcom Mulenga confirmed the incident in an interview from Luapula yesterday.
Mr Mulenga said the incident was reported to the police on Thursday around 12:50 hours by Annie Mufaya, 26, an employee at the health institution.
“Chembe Rural Health Centre was broken into and property worth K40,322 was stolen from the institution,” Mr Mulenga said.
He mentioned the items stolen as 15 bells of mosquito nets, 108 packs of coartem, five tins of quinine tablets and one LG DVD recorder.
Mr Mulenga said the watchman, Moses Kalaba, of Kasomalwela village in Chembe is the prime suspect and is currently on the run.
“He has stopped reporting for work without the knowledge of his employers and is believed to have gone into hiding in to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo,” Mr Mulenga said.
The police chief said investigations into the matter will continue.
