Changing economy in Dundumwezi

PART of the Kalomo-Dundumwezi road that has been worked on.

VIOLET MENGO, Kalomo
IT is slightly after 14:00 hours and the sun rays penetrate pockets of dark clouds, emitting light to Munsaka village in the Dundumwezi area of Kalomo district.
Reflecting on the new face of her community, Maanza Mufanga, 39, sits on a small rug and leans against a wall, watching truckloads of maize on the Kalomo– Dundumwezi road.
And on the other side of the road is a farm where young men are busy sowing maize seed whose harvest is expected to keep the newly-rehabilitated Kalomo-Dundumwezi road busy.
And Mufanga, a farmer-cum-entrepreneur in Munsaka village, is thankful that life has changed for the better and she now enjoys a better income. She also has easier access to the markets and essential services too, than the time when the feeder roader was in a state of disrepair.
“Thank God our village road is now in good condition,” Mufanga says with a sigh of relief. “I am able to sell my goods along the road and at the market.”http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
