HONE SIAME, Kitwe
DEFENDING champions Diggers have been drawn in Group A against ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka, Konkola and Kitwe Playing Field in the 2015 Owen
Busange Sevens Rugby Championship that gets underway today in Chililabombwe.
The one-day event, which has attracted teams from across the country, will see the winners pocketing K8,000 while runners up will receive K5,000.
Group B comprise Nkwazi, Mufulira, Ndola Wanderers and Green Eagles B with Chibuluma drawn in Group C alongside Chibuluma, Green Buffaloes, Konkola, Diggers B and Konkola B while Group D has Green Eagles A, Roan, Kitwe Playing Field A and Nchanga.
DIGGERS vs LUSAKA
‘Men at Work’ Diggers have a tough challenge of retaining the Owen Busange title they won under late coach Robertson ‘Plough’ Kang’ongwe as top rugby clubs jostle for honours at Konkola Rugby Club in Chililabombwe.
The Kitwe giants, who had unimpressive National Rugby League (NRL) campaign will have to put up extraordinary performance to not only silence ‘Powerhouse’ but win the tournament.
Patrick Chanda and Kabwela Mulenga are the players Diggers will rely on to honour their late coach in this tournament that promises sparks.
CHIBULUMA vs BUFFALOES
This will also be an interesting match as both teams are itching to make their sponsors happy.
Buffaloes, who have just bounced back to the big league, will be a difficult team to beat and the absence of reigning NRL champions Red Arrows make the title widely open.
Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) head of competition Enock Shikabeta, who released the draws yesterday, said all logistics are in place for the event.
Plate winners will walk away with K4,000 with runners up getting K3,000, the most disciplined team will receive K1,000 while player-of-the-tournament will pocket K500.
