Chama out of Africa Women Championship

CECILIA ZULU, Windhoek
ZAMBIA women team defender Ethel Chama has been ruled out of the Africa Women Championship after sustaining an injury during the Africa Women Championship opening match against Namibia on Saturday.
Chama sustained an ankle injury in the match the She-polopolo lost 0-2 at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Team doctor James Nyimbili said yesterday that Chama’s injury will take time to heal.
“The injury is bad. I am afraid she can’t continue playing at the tournament. We will give her two days and if the leg does not get well then will have no any other option but to put her into a pop [plaster of Paris],” Nyimibili said.
And second choice goalkeeper Miriam Katamanda and midfielder Misozi Zulu were randomly picked for a doping test after the match against Namibia.
Meanwhile, She-polopolo coach Charles Bwale described the loss to Namibia as painful.
“It is a bitter pill to swallow. We did not deserve to lose that game but poor officiating also contributed. I am disappointed with the way the match officials handled the game. They were too harsh on us,” Bwale said.
He said the She-polopolo will prepare adequate for the matches against Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
Skipper Kabange Mupopo said the She-polopolo were hoping to collect maximum points from Namibia.
And Namibia coach Jacqueline Shipanga said good preparations helped the team beat Zambia.
Niger beat Ivory Coast 4-2 in a late match in Group A on Saturday.
