Cemetery plots conflict continues

CHINGOLA Municipal Council is allocating burial space on plots of illegal developers at Chingola Central Cemetery to curb encroachment.
Mayor Titus Tembo said in an interview yesterday, the local authority had summoned the affected developers for them to present letters of offer to prove the legality of their plots but none of them turned up.
“Part of the cemetery has been encroached upon and we are burying people in the foundations. We are doing that to deter would-be illegal developers at the Central cemetery,” Mr Tembo said.
He said the demolition notices the council had earlier served on the developers have matured and that the local authority will soon pull down all illegal structures.
Mr Tembo said everyone should follow the laid-down procedures in the acquisition of plots.
