Celebrating women: Empowerment from a woman’s lens

MWAPE MWENYA, Lusaka
AS ZAMBIA prepares to join the rest of the world in commemorating International Women`s Day tomorrow, Government and other stakeholders will today take time to sensitise communities on the importance of this occasion through exhibitions.
This year`s commemoration under the theme ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’ will as per tradition be characterised by carnivals countrywide.
To sum it up tomorrow, the main event in Lusaka will be held in the Showgrounds, and to grace it will be Minister of Gender Elizabeth Phiri.
Stakeholders who include the Finnish Ambassador to Zambia, the women movement and Government share their own interpretations of this year`s Women’s Day theme and views on the campaign for gender parity in Zambia.
Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Suomela Chowdhury-Pirjo said the theme ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’ is encouraging women to be innovative in the economic spheres where they are under-represented, and this is her challenge to Zambian women in their push to promote gender equality.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
