NKWETO MFULA, Chingola
CHINGOLA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has come up with an ambitious project to promote the mining town as an investment destination following the recent launch of the five year strategic plan by the local authority.
CCCI president Freddie Musonda said Chingola Municipal Council should be supported by all stakeholders to achieve and implement the planned developmental programmes and investment opportunities.
The local authority has launched its strategic plan 2015/19 focused on enhanced economic development and improve service delivery to communities.
Mr Musonda said the chamber has partnered with the council to market the strategic plan to woo investors from outside.
“What we have done as a chamber is to come up with a project to market Chingola on the international market,†he said.
To this effect, the chamber has upgraded its office to enhance communication locally and outside Zambia.
Mr Musonda said the chamber has outside linkages with the international community and will utilise its connections with that of the local market.
He said the partnership with the council is likely to promote investment opportunities in the mining town.
“With the council’s strategic plan in place, Chingola is earmarked for increased investments that will result in economic growth of the mining area,†he said.
Mr Musonda said diversification into manufacturing sector is key in economic growth as the town is solely dependent on the mining industry for economic activities.
He also said some local investors have expressed interest in investing in manufacturing industry.
Mr Musonda also said there is need to enhance the agriculture sector as it has the potential to create thousands of jobs for the local people.
