COPPERBELT University (CBU) Vice-Chancellor Naison Ngoma has dismissed as false reports that a student has died after being beaten by the police at the campus last week.

Police on Saturday apprehended 53 CBU students that rioted over a statement allegedly uttered by Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo that the students’ meal allowances had been withdrawn.

Some students were in the process injured and property such as doors and window panes damaged.
Refuting social media reports suggesting that a CBU student that was allegedly beaten by police during the riot had died, Prof Ngoma said the reports are false.
