Catholics ban funeral vigil mass

CATHOLIC Diocese of Ndola Bishop Benjamin Phiri has directed priests not to conduct vigil mass for the deceased in church.
The Bishop has directed that priests should instead conduct memorial mass 30 days after burial, in the wake of COVID-19.
A vigil church service is held a day before burial to pray and remember the deceased.
Bishop Phiri said priests will, however, continue whenever possible to bless bodies of the deceased before they are taken to the graveyard.
He added that priests can conduct burial rites at the graveyard.
