Car knocks down 5 people

MUBANGA NONDO, Ndola
FIVE people have sustained serious injuries in Mpika after a vehicle careered off the road and ploughed into them while they were waiting to board a bus on the roadside.
Muchinga Province deputy commissioner of police Peter Bubenshi said in an interview yesterday that the accident happened on Saturday around 18:45 hours at Chikankala village in Mpika.
Mr Bubenshi said the driver of a Toyota Ipsum registration number ACZ 5868 identified as Charles Bwalya, 36, of Lusaka also suffered injuries.
“What happened was that there was a bus that was coming from Lusaka. So, the driver of the bus stopped to pick up the people who stood by the roadside. And in the opposite direction, there was another vehicle that was coming and it lost control and hit the five people who stood on the roadside.
“We have not yet charged the driver of the Toyota Ipsum as he is among those admitted to hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident,” Mr Bubenshi said.
The injured are admitted to Mpika District Hospital.
