Cable thieves jailed 12 years

THE Ndola High Court has convicted and sentenced four men to 12 years imprisonment each with hard labour for vandalising and stealing Zesco power cables.
On February 7, 2017, Reward Sinyangwe, Elisha Mwansa, Charles Mwale and Peter Mwansa stole 27-metre long copper cables from Zesco’s Jacaranda Mall and Kaloko sub-stations valued at K18, 511.
When the matter came up on Thursday before Judge Charles Chanda, the court heard that more than 200 households in the affected areas experienced power outage after the cables were vandalised and stolen.
After investigations, it was discovered that the power outage was caused by vandalism at Jacaranda Mall and Kaloko Zesco sub-stations which serviced more than 200 households.
