SHIKANDA KAWANGA, Livingstone
THE Livingstone Magistrate’ Court has sentenced two businessmen to four years imprisonment each for stealing from a butchery.
Kaumba Ndonji, 32, and Collins Munguni, 32, both of Mambova area in Kazungula district, appeared before magistrate Adsen Shanduba, charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony.
Facts before court were that between December 24, and 26 last year, the duo whilst acting together, stole assorted meat products and a butcher boy, property of Siegfried Hartmut, valued at K40 000.
The court heard that the theft occurred whilst the owner of the butchery had gone away for Christmas holiday.
Facts before court were that upon receiving the report, the police investigated the matter until the butcher boy was recovered and the owner identified it.
After questioning the buyer, he said he bought the machine from the accused persons at K276.
In mitigation, the duo pleaded for leniency, with each one saying he would never steal again.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Shanduba said theft does not pay.
