NANCY SIAME, Lusaka
THE Bus and Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia (BTDAZ) has urged Government to reconsider its decision to ban transportation of people on public passenger vehicles between 21:00 hours and 05:00 hours.
The ban, which comes into effect on November 21, has been legalised through a statutory instrument (SI).
BTDAZ spokesperson Amis Daudi said the ban on the movement of public service vehicles at night will also affect travellers because most them move for business purposes.
Mr Daudi said in an interview yesterday that Government should have engaged stakeholders before signing the SI.
“There are other ways that Government can reduce road traffic accidents such as expanding roads, street lighting, especially with the coming of toll gates where money for road maintenance is collected,†Mr Daudi said.
