GRITTY Green Buffaloes unlocked a tightly-knit defence of South Sudanese side Al Merreikh to score two second-half goals in an otherwise closely-fought Confederation Cup preliminary first leg match yesterday.
It was a contest of defence versus attacks wits watched by Minister of Defence Davies Chama and Zambia Army commander Lieutenant General Paul Mihova.
A day after Green Eagles edged Young Buffaloes of eSwatini by a similar margin and in the same competition, Buffaloes followed suit to beat Al Merreikh, who parked the bus.
Midfielder Friday Samu and striker Steward Chikandiwa scored a goal apiece to give Buffaloes a well-deserved victory and reduce pressure on coach Bilton Musonda going into next Wednesday’s return leg in Juba.
