Briefcase buyers cheating small-scale maize farmers – DC

UNSCRUPULOUS maize buyers in Petauke are tampering with their scales to over state the weight of maize they are buying from small-scale farmers.
The farmers are told by the traders that their maize bags are underweight with intent to buy more than 50 kilogrammes at K110.
Petauke District Commissioner Velenasi Moyo has encouraged farmers to sell their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to avoid being exploited.
“We have found out that briefcase buyers are stealing from innocent farmers by buying more than 50 kilogrammes of maize at K110. Some farmers are being told that their bags are underweight by three or four kilogrammes when in fact the buyers have tampered with CLICK TO READ MORE
