Boxing Federation ponder national team overhaul

ROBINSON KUNDA, Lusaka
THE Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) is considering overhauling the national team following its poor performance at the Congo Brazzaville All-Africa Games.
ZBF president Thomas Chileshe said in an interview yesterday that the national team performance is disappointing.
Seven boxers represented the country at the Pan African Games but only middleweight Ben Muziyo won a bronze medal.
Prior to the tournament, national team coach Kennedy Kanyanta assured the nation that two gold, one silver and a bronze medal will be reaped.
Chileshe said his executive will not accept excuses.
He said excuses like boxers lacked international exposure will not be tolerated.
“The results from Congo were actually devastating. We sent seven boxers and only Muziyo won a bronze medal. We will not accept excuses and we are planning to overhaul the team,” Chileshe said.
