THERE is a new craze that has taken Zambian women by storm, wearing lipstick. There is nothing wrong with wearing lipstick, but anybody will tell you that wearing the right shade enhances one’s appearance.
Women who appreciate make-up will tell you that lipstick, lippies or lip gloss is not only a “go-to” makeup item used when one wants to quickly pull together a look, but also an important part of a more detailed make-up regimen.
According to Kasweka Kachaka, proprietor of SWEK MATTE Lippies, it is important to choose the right colour of lipstick to match one’s complexion. Although light skinned women can pull off any shade of lipstick with ease, anybody with confidence can also wear bright lippies with the right outfit.
With the current saturated cosmetic Zambian market, competition is stiff, but it is important, nonetheless, to ensure that the market sells only the best products, and that is what SWEK MATTE Lippies is all about.
“SWEK MATTE Lippies was established out of an obsessive passion to introduce high quality cosmetic products to the Zambian cosmetic user. It started off in retailing of various high end products,” Kasweka says.
And by high end quality content, Kasweka says it is not just about the brand name because the cosmetic market is saturated with counterfeit products for almost every brand; brands either endorsed by a celebrity in their authenticity, or launched by one.
Before introducing her own brand of lipstick and foundation pallets, Kasweka says she retailed various brands, and every product retailed had to be vetted for quality assurance, before being sold.
“With the diversity in cultures and religion, consideration had to be made in rolling out the brand SWEK MATTE. Every woman wants to feel confident in the way they look. It is not just about feeling confident using the product they want, but also how safe it is,” she says.
SWEK MATTE lippies does not contain disteardimonium hectorite, trimethylsilicate, synthetic fluorphilogopite, or other harmful ingredients.
The SWEK MATTE lippies comes in various shades named after African cities including Harare, Windhoek, Dodoma, Lagos, Lusaka and Kampala. Others are Lilongwe, Nairobi, Pretoria and Gaberone.
Tips for wearing lipstick
One of the tips for wearing lippies according to Kasweka is to exfoliate your lips. Dry, dead skin is often what makes lipstick look rough and uneven, so slough it off before you apply any colour.
Another important tip to consider is adding moisture, using a lip liner to get the perfect shape is optional, and then apply matte lipstick.
Tips on removing lipstick
Applying a bit of Vaseline helps remove lipstick while moisturizing the skin underneath. Kasweka says exfoliating with Vaseline and a bit of sugar then wiping it out is the best way of removing the lippies.
Another simple step is to apply Vaseline to your lips, let it sit for a few minutes then take a warm washcloth and wipe your lips in a gentle, circular motion. Rinse the washcloth and repeat until the entire lip colour is gone.
So ladies, go out, be bold and confident as you wear your favourite lippies. After all, it’s about being confident in your own skin.
Have a blessed weekend.
