Bob Sichinga re-joins UPND

KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
FORMER Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Bob Sichinga has re-joined the United Party for National Development (UPND).
Mr Sichinga announced this at a briefing addressed by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka yesterday.
He is one of the founder members of the UPND but served under the PF government although he was not re-appointed when President Lungu formed Government last year.
He left the UPND at the height of intra-party divisions following the death of the party’s founder president Anderson Mazoka.
PF secretary-general Davies Chama told Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) yesterday that Mr Sichinga’s defection will have no adverse impact on the ruling party.
He said Mr Sichinga has been inactive since losing his bid for the PF presidency to Mr Edgar Lungu last year.
Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema has refuted media reports that his party incited University of Zambia and Copperbelt University student demonstrations.
He said it is not true that he has been inciting students to embark on demonstrations as a way of destabilising the nation.
Mr Hichilema was speaking in an interview at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Thursday after a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
