Black Mountain accident national disaster

Dear editor,
THE Black Mountain mine in Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday June 20, 2018.The accident resulted in the death of small-scale miners, commonly known as jerabos, with eight victims seriously injured.
The bodies of the deceased are lying in Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary, while the accident victims are admitted at the same hospital receiving medical attention.
The accident was caused by some machines which were excavating on the surface whilst the miners were underground executing their usual duties when they met their fate.
The mine caved in.
The operations at Black Mountain have since been suspended until further notice.
The death of the miners is devastating and a great loss to their families and the nation at large.
In light of this, I implore the government to declare the demise of the miners a national disaster.
May the souls of the departed miners rest in eternal peace.
